About Axis Leadership
AXIS is a discipleship program where Eagle Rock youth discover their purpose, learn to govern themselves and minister through a Biblical worldview, and be empowered to work with their peers to address the needs of their church, city, state, nation, and world. AXIS is a member organization of the Common Sense Culture Peer Leadership Program directed by David Mahan, that includes students from across the Central Ohio area.
Leadership Development
As a part of the program, peer leaders receive biblical, interactive and culturally relevant instruction on leadership, character, effective communication skills, the avoidance of risky behaviors, and other topics relating to positive youth development. In addition to their own personal growth, participants are trained to work together as a team to effectively engage, equip, and empower their peers through service learning opportunities that they develop and facilitate within the community.
Service Learning
This is a principle that guides everything we do in AXIS, because application is a critical step in ensuring that the head knowledge that is taught in the classroom becomes deeply rooted in the hearts of our students. July 20-29, the AXIS team will be partnering with Casa Viva, a Christian foster care organization and local churches to minister to the children and families of Alajuela, Costa Rica. While there, the team will be facilitating a vacation bible school that they designed themselves, as well as, build a concrete soccer court that will be used as a ministry resource for the community (it is too muddy to play soccer without a concrete court during the rainy season). The peer leaders have been praying and working for several weeks to hone their leadership skills, develop fundraisers, prepare skits and crafts for VBS, and brush up on their Spanish. The team goal is to raise at least $7,500 to cover the cost of their project, which is about $500 per person. Would you please consider supporting your missionaries with a donation of any size?
Evaluation
Peer Positive System was created by Eagle Rock’s own to provide an online platform designed to integrate mutilpe program components and provide a method for incentivizing responsible behavior. In addition to an organized system of program management, rank, and evaluation, the PeerPositive System utilizes innovative online resources and the power of positive peer pressure to prepare youth to engage, equip, and empower their peers.
